John Deere 521535.05 – RLC: Mid Body Flood Light Left Current Low

The control module is detecting a lower-than-expected electrical current draw on the circuit powering the left mid-body/grab rail work light. This condition is typically caused by an open circuit, such as a blown halogen bulb, a burnt-out LED assembly, a disconnected plug, a broken wire, or high resistance caused by corrosion in the connector pins.

   Turn on the work lights and visually confirm that the left mid-body/grab rail light is completely out or flickering.

   Perform a component isolation swap test: disconnect the left mid-body light and swap it with the right mid-body light. If the fault follows the light, the assembly is blown. If the left side remains dead, the issue is in the wiring or RLC.

   Inspect the wiring harness leading to the left mid-body light for pinched wires or chafing against the grab rail or cab frame.

   Unplug the connector to check for water intrusion, green corrosion, or pushed-back pins.

   With the lights turned on, use a multimeter to verify that the connector is receiving proper voltage (12V) and has a solid ground.

   Power down machine

   Park the machine on a level surface, turn off the engine, and remove the key to power down the electrical system.

   Locate light assembly

   Locate the left mid-body/grab rail work light assembly.

   Disconnect pigtail

   Disconnect the electrical pigtail from the back of the light housing.

   Clean connector pins

   If corrosion is found in the connector, clean the pins thoroughly with electrical contact cleaner and a small brush. Apply dielectric grease to prevent future moisture intrusion.

   Repair wiring harness

   If the wiring harness is damaged, splice and repair the broken wire using weather-sealed heat-shrink butt connectors.

   Replace light assembly

   If the diagnostic swap test proved the light assembly is faulty, unbolt the old light from the grab rail mounting bracket and install the new replacement light.

   Reconnect connector

   Plug the connector back into the light assembly.

   Verify illumination

   Turn the key switch on and activate the work lights to verify the left mid-body light now illuminates.

   Clear fault code

   Cycle the key switch or use the CommandCenter™ display to clear the stored diagnostic trouble code.
