521536.03

John Deere 521536.03 – RLC: High Voltage at Grab Rail Light

Issue description

The Cab Roof Module (RLC) monitors the grab rail work light circuit for a specific voltage drop or current draw. When the light is commanded on, detecting high voltage on the return/monitor pin indicates an open circuit or excessive resistance. This condition is typically caused by a blown bulb or high resistance within a connector.

Applies to these machines

  • 6110R
  • 6120R
  • 6130R
  • 6145R
  • 6155R
  • 6175R
  • 6195R
  • 6215R

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the grab rail work light to see if the bulb or LED is blown or burnt out.

  2. Disconnect the grab rail work light and inspect the integrated 2-pin Deutsch connector for corrosion, pushed-out pins, or moisture ingress.

  3. Test the wiring harness between the Cab Roof Module (RLC) and the grab rail light connector for continuity and ensure there are no shorts to power.

Repair steps

  1. Power down

Turn off the tractor and remove the key to ensure no power is being sent from the RLC to the work light circuit.

  2. Access the light

Locate the affected grab rail work light mounted on the cab handrail or grab rail brackets.

  3. Disconnect connector

Unplug the 2-pin Deutsch connector at the rear of the light housing.

  4. Clean or repair connector

If corrosion is present, clean the connector pins with electrical contact cleaner. If the connector is melted or heavily corroded, splice in a new 2-pin Deutsch pigtail.

  5. Replace the light

If the bulb is blown, unbolt the light from the grab rail bracket. Mount the replacement LED work light and secure the mounting hardware.

  6. Reconnect and test

Plug the connector back in, turn the tractor key to the ON position, and activate the work lights. Verify the light illuminates and use a diagnostic tool to clear the 521536.03 code from the RLC.
