John Deere 521536.06 – RLC (Roof Lighting Control Unit): Left Worklight on Cab Frame or Left Xenon (HID) Worklight on Cab Frame, Current Too High

The system has detected an abnormally high electrical current (high amps) at the pin for the left grab rail/cab frame worklight when the lights are turned on. This condition is typically caused by a shorted bulb, an incorrect bulb with a higher wattage than specified, or a short circuit to ground (earth) in the wiring harness.

   Bulb Isolation: Disconnect the connector at the left worklight on the cab frame (connectors are often labeled X110F, X111F, or X866F for Xenon/HID systems). Turn the lights on. If the fault code changes from .06 (Current Too High) to a .05 (Current Too Low / Open Circuit), the short is inside the light assembly or the bulb itself.

   Wiring Harness Check: If the .06 code remains active while the light is unplugged, the short to ground is in the wiring harness between the RLC module and the light connector. Use a multimeter to check for continuity between the worklight power wire and the cab frame ground.

   Visual Inspection: Inspect the wiring harness routed along the grab rail and cab frame for chafing, pinched wires, or melted insulation. Check the RLC module pins for corrosion or signs of arcing.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and turn off the battery disconnect switch to prevent electrical spikes.

   Access the Light

   Locate the left worklight mounted on the cab frame/grab rail.

   Inspect/Replace the Bulb

   Open the worklight housing. If the bulb is blackened, shattered, or the internal filament is shorted across the posts, replace the bulb. Ensure the replacement bulb matches the exact OEM wattage (do not install a higher wattage aftermarket bulb, as this will trigger the high amp code).

   Repair Wiring (If Applicable)

   If the diagnostic checks pointed to a harness issue, trace the wire from the light connector back to the roof harness. Repair any bare wires touching the metal cab frame using heat-shrink tubing and electrical tape, or replace the damaged harness section.

   Clear Codes

   Reconnect the light assembly, restore battery power, and turn the key ON. Turn on the worklights. If the repair was successful, the RLC 521536.06 code will move from "Active" to "Stored" and can be cleared via the CommandCenter display.
