John Deere 521538.06 – RLC: Left Middle Worklight on Front of Roof or Left Xenon (HID) Worklight on Front of Roof, Current Too High.

The control software registers that the current at the output to the left middle worklight (or left Xenon HID worklight) on the front of the cab roof is too high. This condition typically indicates a short circuit to ground or an internal short within the light assembly or ballast causing an excessive current draw.

   Inspect the worklight circuit wiring harness and connectors for signs of a short circuit, such as pinched wires, chafed insulation touching the cab frame, or moisture/corrosion inside the connectors.

   Disconnect the left middle worklight and test it independently to ensure it is functioning correctly and drawing the proper current.

   If equipped with Xenon (HID) lights, check the ballast unit for an internal failure causing high amp draw.

   Verify the power supply to the worklight circuit is stable and within the specified range.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shock, especially if working with high-voltage Xenon (HID) ballasts.

   Access the Roof Lights

   Safely access the front roof lighting array on the cab.

   Isolate the Fault

   Disconnect the left middle worklight. Reconnect the battery and turn on the worklights. If the code changes from 521538.06 (Current Too High) to 521538.05 (Current Too Low / Open Circuit), the short is inside the light assembly or ballast. If the code remains .06, the short is in the cab roof wiring harness.

   Repair Wiring or Replace Component

   If the harness is shorted, repair the damaged wire or replace the affected harness section. If the light assembly is faulty, replace the bulb, ballast (if HID), or the entire sealed LED/Halogen housing. (Note: John Deere cautions that work on Xenon HID ballast units involves high voltage and should be handled with extreme care).

   Clear and Retest

   Reconnect all components, clear the RLC diagnostic trouble codes via the cab monitor, and test the worklights to ensure the code does not return.
