John Deere 521539.05 – RLC: Front Inner Roof Flood Light Left Current Low
Issue description
The control module is detecting that the electrical current draw on the circuit for the front inner left work light is below the expected threshold, indicating an open circuit. This is most commonly caused by a burnt-out bulb, a disconnected plug, or a broken wire in the harness.

Check the cause
Visually inspect the front inner left roof flood light for a blown bulb (most frequent cause)
Check the 2-pin connector at the light assembly for pushed-out pins, corrosion, or moisture intrusion
Trace the wiring harness from the light back to the RLC module in the cab roof, checking for pinched, chafed, or broken wires
Use a multimeter to verify if the RLC module is outputting 12V to the light's connector when the work lights are commanded ON via the cab switch
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor, place the transmission in Park, and turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position to prevent electrical shorts.
Access the Light
Safely access the front cab roof. Locate the inner left flood light assembly.
Remove and Inspect
Disconnect the wiring harness from the back of the light. Remove the bulb/assembly.
Replace the Bulb/Light
If the bulb is blown (or if it is a sealed LED unit that has failed), install a new replacement.
Repair Wiring (If Applicable)
If the bulb was intact but the connector was corroded, clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner and apply dielectric grease. If a wire is broken, splice and repair the wire using heat-shrink tubing.
Reassemble and Clear Codes
Reconnect the light, restore battery power, and turn the key switch ON. Cycle the work light switch. The code may clear simply by cycling the key switch and the light. If it remains stored, clear it via the CommandCenter display.
Parts you might need
(3)Front Inner Roof Flood Light Assembly / Bulb
RE181281For some older 8R/8030 series, standard halogen flood lamps. Verify your specific lighting package (LED vs Halogen) with a dealer before ordering.
Roof Lighting Harness
If the wiring is damaged beyond repair, the roof harness interconnect may need replacement.
Roof Lighting Control (RLC) Module
Only replace if the wiring is 100% intact, the bulb is good, and the module fails to output voltage.
