John Deere 521541.05 – RLC: Rear Side Roof Flood Light Left Current Low

The control module is detecting a lower-than-expected electrical current draw on the circuit powering the left-side rear roof work light, which almost always indicates an open circuit such as a burnt-out bulb/LED, a disconnected wiring plug, or a broken wire in the harness.

   Cycle power by turning the key switch off and back on to see if the RLC resets the fault code.

   Turn on the rear work lights and visually confirm that the left rear side roof flood light is completely out.

   Safely access the left rear roof light, disconnect the plug, and inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture ingress, or pushed-out terminals.

   Test the light assembly for continuity (if halogen) or apply a direct 12V power source to the light's pins to see if it illuminates. If it lights up, the bulb is good, and the issue is in the tractor's wiring.

   If the light is functional, use a multimeter to check for continuity and voltage on the wiring harness between the RLC module and the light connector to locate the open wire.

   Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, and remove the key to de-energize the electrical system.

   Ensure the machine is safely parked and powered down before beginning work.

   Safely access the left rear roof corner of the cab using proper steps/ladders.

   Use appropriate equipment to reach the cab roof safely.

   Disconnect the 2-pin wiring harness plug from the back of the faulty left rear side roof flood light.

   Unplug the electrical connection to the light assembly.

   Unbolt the mounting hardware securing the light assembly to the cab roof/bracket and remove the old light.

   Remove the faulty light from its mounting position.

   Position the new replacement work light into the cab corner housing and secure it with the mounting hardware.

   Install the new light assembly into the bracket.

   Apply a small amount of dielectric grease to the electrical connector to prevent future moisture corrosion, and plug it securely into the new light.

   Protect the connection from moisture before plugging it in.

   Turn the tractor key to the ON position, activate the work lights via the CommandCenter, and verify the new left rear roof light illuminates.

   Test the new light to ensure it functions correctly.

   Check the CommandCenter display to ensure fault code RLC 521541.05 has moved to "Stored" or cleared entirely.

   Verify the fault code is no longer active.
