John Deere 521541.06 – RLC (Roof Lighting Control / Cab Roof Module): Rear Side Roof Flood Light Left Current High

The control module has detected an electrical current draw on the circuit for the left rear side roof work light that exceeds the maximum allowable threshold. This is typically caused by a short circuit to ground in the wiring harness or an internal short within the light assembly itself.

   Inspect the left rear side roof work light for physical damage, cracked lenses, or water intrusion, which commonly causes internal shorts.

   Perform a disconnect test: Unplug the 2-pin connector at the left rear side roof work light, turn on the tractor, and activate the work lights.

   Monitor the fault code: If it changes from 521541.06 to 521541.05 (Current Low / Open Circuit), the light assembly is internally shorted. If it remains 521541.06, the short is in the wiring harness.

   If the harness is suspect (code remained 521541.06), use a multimeter to check for continuity to ground on the power supply wire. Inspect the harness routing near the cab roof corners for pinched wires, chafing, or exposed copper.

   Disconnect battery

   If the light assembly is faulty: Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery ground cable to prevent electrical spikes.

   Remove faulty light

   Access the left rear roof work light assembly on the cab roof and remove the mounting hardware/bezel securing the light to the cab corner.

   Install new light

   Disconnect the 2-pin wiring harness connector, plug it into the new replacement work light assembly, mount the new light into the cab roof housing, and secure the hardware.

   Verify repair

   Reconnect the battery, start the tractor, and turn on the work lights to verify the code clears and the light functions.

   Trace wiring harness

   If the wiring harness is faulty: Trace the wiring harness from the left rear roof light back toward the RLC module to locate the chafed or pinched section causing the short to ground.

   Repair wiring

   Cut out the damaged section of wire and repair it using weather-resistant heat-shrink butt connectors, or replace that specific sub-harness section if heavily damaged.

   Secure harness

   Secure the harness with zip ties or loom to prevent it from rubbing against the cab frame in the future.
