John Deere 521542.05 – RLC (Cab Roof Module / Roof Lighting Controller): Rear Roof Warning (NA Only) or Rear Corner Roof Light (Eur Only) Left Current Low

The control module is detecting an abnormally low electrical current draw on the circuit powering the left rear outer roof light. This condition is almost always caused by an open circuit, such as a burnt-out bulb, a failed LED assembly, a disconnected plug, or a broken wire in the harness.

   Turn on the work lights/warning lights and visually inspect the left rear outer roof light. If it is completely dead, the bulb or LED diode board has likely failed.

   Access the rear left roof light and disconnect the wiring harness. Inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture ingress, or pushed-back terminals.

   Using a multimeter, check for 12V at the harness connector (light side) when the light switch is activated. Verify that the ground wire has good continuity to the chassis.

   If voltage is missing, trace the wiring harness back to the RLC (Cab Roof Module) and test for continuity to locate any breaks or pinches in the wire.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts during repair.

   Access the Light Assembly

   Safely access the rear cab roof. Remove the retaining screws or unclip the bezel holding the left rear outer work/warning light in place.

   Disconnect and Inspect

   Unplug the light from the roof harness. If the connector is corroded, clean it with electrical contact cleaner and apply dielectric grease.

   Replace the Component

   If the tractor uses halogen bulbs, replace the blown bulb. If the tractor uses sealed LED assemblies (common on R-series), plug the new LED light assembly into the harness.

   Wiring Repair (If Applicable)

   If the light itself was not the issue and a broken wire was found during diagnostics, splice and solder the broken wire, sealing it with marine-grade heat shrink.

   Reassemble and Clear Codes

   Mount the light assembly back into the roof housing. Reconnect the battery, cycle the key switch, and use the CommandCenter™ or a diagnostic tool to clear the stored RLC 521542.05 code. Test the lights to ensure the fault does not return.
