John Deere 521544.03 – RLC: Rear Inner Left Roof Flood Light Voltage High
Issue description
The controller is detecting a higher-than-expected voltage on the circuit responsible for powering the rear inner left work light, which typically points to an open circuit (such as a blown bulb/LED) or a short-to-power in the wiring harness.

Check the cause
Visual Inspection of the Light: Check the rear inner left roof flood light. A burnt-out bulb or internally failed LED assembly will cause an open circuit, which the RLC interprets as high voltage on the monitor pin.
Swap Test: Swap the left inner roof flood light with the right inner roof flood light. If the fault code changes to the right side (e.g., 521546.03), the light assembly itself is faulty. If the code remains 521544.03 on the left side, the issue is in the wiring or the RLC module.
Harness and Connector Check: Inspect the wiring harness between the RLC (Cab Roof Module) and the rear inner left work light. Look for pinched wires causing a short-to-power, or broken wires causing an open circuit.
Pin Inspection: Disconnect the harness at the light and at the RLC module to check for corroded, backed-out, or bent pins.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery ground cable to prevent electrical spikes.
Access the Roof Harness
Safely access the rear cab roof lighting area. You may need to remove the rear roof overhang cover depending on the tractor model.
Isolate the Circuit
Disconnect the pigtail connector at the Rear Inner Left Roof Flood Light.
Test the Wiring
Using a multimeter, test the power and ground wires from the RLC to the light connector for continuity. Test the power wire for a short to voltage (ensure it is not receiving power when the circuit is commanded off).
Replace or Repair
If the wiring tests good, replace the faulty Rear Inner Left Roof Flood Light assembly. If the wiring is damaged, repair the open or shorted section of the cab roof harness.
Reassembly
Reconnect the light assembly and secure the wiring harness.
Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery, turn the key to the ON position, and use the cab monitor to clear the stored 521544.03 fault code. Test the work lights to ensure normal operation.
Parts you might need
(1)Rear Inner Left Roof Flood Light / Xenon (HID) Worklight / LED Worklight assembly
Specific OEM part numbers for the light assembly vary heavily depending on whether the tractor is equipped with standard Halogen, HID/Xenon, or LED lighting packages. Reference the specific tractor's serial number in the John Deere Parts Catalog under the 'Cab Roof Lighting' section.
