John Deere 521544.06 – RLC (Cab Roof Module): Rear Inner Left Roof Flood Light Current High

The control module has detected an abnormally high electrical current (amperage) draw on the circuit supplying power to the rear inner left work light. This typically indicates a short circuit to ground in the wiring harness, a internally shorted light bulb, a failed HID ballast, or a melted connector bridging the power and ground pins.

   Visually inspect the rear inner left roof flood light assembly for physical damage, water intrusion, or melted components.

   Disconnect the electrical connector at the rear inner left work light and recheck active codes. If the code changes to 521544.05 (Current Low), the short is internal to the light assembly. If 521544.06 remains, the short is in the wiring harness.

   With the light and battery disconnected, use a digital multimeter to check for continuity between the power supply pin on the light's harness connector and a known good chassis ground.

   Inspect the pins at both the light assembly and the RLC module for corrosion, melting, or bridging that could cause a short circuit.

   De-energize the System

   Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent further electrical damage.

   Access the Circuit

   Safely access the rear roof lighting array. Disconnect the harness from the rear inner left work light.

   Address Component Failure

   If diagnostics proved the light assembly was internally shorted, replace the faulty halogen bulb, HID ballast, or the entire LED light assembly (depending on your tractor's specific lighting package).

   Address Wiring Failure

   If the harness is shorted to ground, trace the wire from the light back to the Cab Roof Module (RLC). Look for pinch points near the cab roof frame or chafed insulation. Repair the damaged wire using automotive-grade solder/crimp connectors and heat shrink tubing, or replace that section of the roof harness.

   Reassembly

   Reconnect the light assembly and restore battery power.

   Clear and Verify

   Turn the ignition on, activate the rear work lights, and use the tractor's CommandCenter/diagnostic monitor to clear the stored fault codes. Verify that the light operates correctly and the 521544.06 code does not return.
