John Deere 521547.06 – CLC (Cab Load Center): High Amp Draw (Current Above Normal or Grounded Circuit) on Left Rear Mud Guard Work Light Circuit

The controller has detected that the circuit powering the left rear fender work light is pulling more amperage than allowed. This is typically caused by a short to ground in the wiring harness, water intrusion in the light housing, a internally shorted bulb, or the installation of aftermarket lights that exceed the circuit's rated capacity.

   Cycle the tractor's key switch to see if the code clears, as the CLC can sometimes throw intermittent codes.

   Disconnect the left rear mud guard work light from the wiring harness and turn the work lights on. If the fault code changes from an FMI 06 (High Amp Draw) to an FMI 05 (Current Below Normal / Open Circuit), the short is inside the light fixture itself.

   If the FMI 06 code remains active while the light is unplugged, the short to ground is located in the wiring harness between the CLC and the light connector. Inspect the harness along the fender for chafing, pinched wires, or melted insulation.

   Ensure no unauthorized aftermarket high-wattage flood lights have been spliced into this circuit, as they will overload the CLC.

   If no physical fault is found, verify that the CLC Address 053 (Lighting Configuration 1) and Address 054 (Lighting Configuration 2) are calibrated correctly for your tractor's specific lighting package.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent further electrical damage during repair.

   Address the Light Fixture (If Faulty)

   If the diagnostic checks isolated the issue to the light, remove the mounting hardware securing the left rear fender light. Replace the halogen bulb or install a new sealed LED fixture.

   Address the Wiring Harness (If Faulty)

   Trace the wiring harness from the left rear fender back toward the cab. Locate the area where the wire is rubbing against the frame or fender bracket.

   Repair the Wire

   Cut out the damaged section of the wire. Splice in a new section of wire using weather-sealed, heat-shrink butt connectors to prevent future corrosion.

   Protect the Harness

   Wrap the repaired section in protective wire loom and secure it with zip ties away from pinch points or moving parts.

   Test

   Reconnect the light fixture and the battery. Turn on the tractor and activate the work lights to ensure the code does not return and the light functions properly.
