John Deere 521550.03 – VLC: Front Outer Hood Flood Lights Right Circuit Voltage High

The control module has detected a higher-than-expected voltage on the circuit that supplies power to the right-side outer hood work light. This is typically caused by a short to power in the wiring harness or an internal failure within the LED light assembly itself.

   Inspect the front right outer hood flood light assembly for physical damage, cracked lenses, or water intrusion.

   Disconnect the right outer hood work light and inspect the pins on both the harness side and the light side for corrosion, bent pins, or melted plastic.

   Using a multimeter, test the wiring harness running from the VLC to the right outer hood light for a short to power (voltage present on the circuit when the light switch is turned off).

   Swap the right outer hood light with the left outer hood light. If the fault code changes to the left side, the light assembly is internally shorted and must be replaced.

   Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.

   Open the tractor hood to access the rear of the front grille/hood lighting assemblies.

   Locate the right-side outer flood light.

   Depress the locking tab on the electrical connector and unplug the harness from the light.

   If the wiring harness is damaged or shorted to another wire, splice and repair the damaged section using OEM-approved weather-sealed connectors.

   If the light assembly is faulty, remove the mounting hardware (usually a pedestal nut or bezel screws depending on the exact hood insert) and remove the old light.

   Install the new LED work light assembly and secure the mounting hardware.

   Reconnect the electrical harness, ensuring the weather seal clicks firmly into place.

   Reconnect the battery, turn on the tractor, and clear the stored VLC fault codes using a diagnostic tool or the tractor's command center display.

    Turn on the work lights to verify proper operation and ensure the code does not return.
