John Deere 521550.06 – VLC: Front Outer Hood Flood Lights Right Circuit Current High

The controller is detecting an abnormally high electrical current (high amps) on the circuit powering the right-hand front outer hood (bonnet) work light. This typically indicates a short to ground (earth) in the wiring harness or an internal short within the light bulb/LED assembly itself.

   Inspect the right outer hood light housing for physical damage, water intrusion, or a blown/blackened halogen bulb.

   Disconnect the wiring harness at the right outer hood light and check for melted plastic, burnt pins, or severe corrosion.

   Isolate the short by leaving the light disconnected and turning the work lights on. If the code changes to 521550.05 (Current Low / Open Circuit), the light assembly is internally shorted. If 521550.06 remains, the short is in the wiring harness.

   If the harness is suspect, use a multimeter to check for continuity between the power wire on the light connector and the tractor chassis (ground), tracing back to the VLC to locate rubbed-through insulation or pinched wires.

   Turn off power

   Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and turn off the battery disconnect switch to prevent accidental shorts.

   Access light assemblies

   Open the tractor hood to access the rear of the front grille/hood light assemblies.

   Disconnect light

   Disconnect the Deutsch connector from the right outer hood flood light.

   Remove hardware

   Remove the retaining hardware (usually Torx screws or hex bolts) securing the light bracket to the hood bezel.

   Remove faulty light

   Remove the faulty light assembly.

   Install new light

   Install the new OEM or aftermarket LED replacement light into the hood bezel and secure the mounting hardware.

   Connect new light

   Apply a small amount of dielectric grease to the electrical connector and plug it into the new light.

   Restore power

   Restore battery power, turn on the ignition, and activate the work lights.

   Verify repair

   Verify the light illuminates and that the VLC 521550.06 fault code has moved from "Active" to "Stored/Inactive." Clear the stored codes via the tractor's display monitor.
