John Deere 521553.05 – RLC (Roof Lighting Controller): Mid Body Flood Light Right Current Low
Issue description
The control module is detecting a lower-than-expected electrical current (amperage) on the circuit powering the right-side mid-body/grab rail work light. This typically indicates an open circuit, which is most commonly caused by a blown bulb, a disconnected plug, a broken wire, or severe corrosion in the connector creating high resistance.

Check the cause
Perform a visual bulb check by turning on the work lights and inspecting the right-side grab rail / mid-body flood light. If it is completely out, the bulb or LED array has likely failed.
Disconnect the wiring harness at the right mid-body light and inspect the connector pins for green corrosion, moisture intrusion, or pushed-back pins.
Use a multimeter to verify that 12V is reaching the connector when the lights are commanded on. If voltage is present but the light does not illuminate, the lamp assembly/bulb is the culprit. If no voltage is present, trace the harness back toward the RLC for a break or chafe.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor and remove the key to ensure the RLC does not send power to the circuit while you are working.
Access the Light
Locate the right mid-body flood light mounted on the cab frame / grab rail.
Address the Connection
Disconnect the pigtail connector. If corrosion is present, clean the terminals with electrical contact cleaner and apply a small amount of dielectric grease.
Replace the Bulb/Assembly
For Halogen housings: Open the lamp assembly and replace the halogen bulb. Note: Never touch a new halogen bulb glass with your bare fingers, as natural skin oils will cause premature failure. For LED housings: LED work lights are sealed units. If the light has failed, unbolt the mounting bracket and replace the entire LED flood lamp assembly.
Clear the Code
Reconnect the harness, turn the key switch on, and power up the lighting system. The RLC should detect the correct current draw. Cycle the key switch or use the CommandCenter™ display to clear the stored fault code.
