521553.06

John Deere 521553.06 – RLC (Cab Roof Module / Roof Lighting Controller): Mid Body Flood Light Right Current High

Issue description

The system has detected an abnormally high electrical current (amperage) on the circuit powering the right mid-body flood light (commonly mounted on the grab rail). This condition is typically caused by a faulty bulb drawing excessive current, an aftermarket light overloading the circuit, or a short circuit to earth/ground in the wiring harness.

Check the cause

  1. Check the condition of the right mid-body flood light bulb for internal shorts drawing excessive amperage

  2. Verify if any aftermarket or operator-customized accessories (like higher-wattage flood lights) have been spliced into this circuit

  3. Trace the wiring harness from the right mid-body flood light back to the Cab Roof Module (RLC) for pinched wires, chafing, or melted insulation causing a short circuit to earth (ground)

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect the Light

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the wiring pigtail at the right mid-body flood light.

  2. Test the Circuit

Turn the tractor and lights back on. If the fault code changes from "Current High" (521553.06) to "Current Low" (521553.05) or disappears, the issue is isolated to the light fixture/bulb itself.

  3. Replace the Bulb/Fixture

If the fixture is the culprit, replace the bulb or the entire sealed light assembly.

  4. Repair Wiring

If the code persists with the light unplugged, the short to ground is in the wiring harness. Locate the damaged section of the wire between the light connector and the RLC module and repair/splice it using weather-sealed connectors.

  5. Clear Codes

Reconnect the light, cycle the tractor's key, and turn the work lights on to verify the repair. If the code still exists after verifying the wiring and light are perfectly intact, the RLC module itself may have suffered internal damage and will require dealer replacement/reprogramming.
