John Deere 521554.05 – Cab Roof Module (RLC): Abnormally Low Current Draw on Grab Rail Work Light Circuit

The control module has detected an abnormally low current (amperage) draw on the grab rail work light circuit when the lights are commanded ON, indicating an open circuit or a significant voltage drop.

   Check the grab rail work light visually to see if it is illuminating or if the bulb filament is blown

   Disconnect the wiring harness at the grab rail light and inspect the pins for green corrosion, moisture, or pins pushed back into the housing

   Use a multimeter to verify that the connector is receiving 12V power from the RLC when the light switch is turned on

   Verify that the ground circuit has good continuity to the chassis

   Trace the wiring harness from the grab rail up to the cab roof module, looking for pinch points, chafing, or severed wires

   Power Down

   Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, and remove the key to ensure the RLC is powered down.

   Access the Light

   Locate the affected grab rail work light. Depending on the housing style, remove the retaining screws or unclip the lens to access the bulb.

   Replace the Bulb

   If the bulb is blown, remove it from the socket. Install a new bulb (if using a halogen replacement, do not touch the glass with bare fingers, as skin oils will cause premature failure).

   Clean Connections

   If the bulb is intact but the code persists, spray the electrical connector with contact cleaner to remove any dirt or mild corrosion. Apply a small amount of dielectric grease to prevent future moisture intrusion.

   Repair Wiring

   If the connector has no voltage, locate the break in the wiring harness between the light and the RLC and splice/repair the wire using weather-sealed heat shrink connectors.

   Test and Clear Codes

   Turn the key switch on and activate the work lights. If the light illuminates, cycle the tractor's key switch to clear the active fault code from the CommandCenter display.
