John Deere 521557.03 – RLC: Front Inner Roof Flood Light Right Voltage High

The controller is detecting a higher-than-expected voltage on the circuit supplying the front inner right work/flood light. This condition is typically caused by a short-to-power in the wiring harness, a faulty light assembly, or an internal fault within the controller itself.

   Inspect the front inner right roof flood light housing and its pigtail connector for physical damage, water intrusion, or melted plastic.

   Trace the roof lighting harness from the light assembly back to the RLC interconnect. Look for pinched wires, chafing against the cab frame, or exposed copper that could be shorting to a 12V power source.

   Disconnect the light and use a multimeter to measure the voltage at the harness connector with the work lights turned off. If battery voltage is present, there is a short to power in the harness.

   Swap the front inner right light with the front inner left light (if they share the same connector style). If the fault code changes to the left side (e.g., 521539.03), the light assembly itself has an internal short and must be replaced.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes.

   Access the Components

   Safely access the front cab roof. Depending on the model, you may need to remove the front roof bezel or access panels to reach the RLC and the lighting harness interconnects.

   Repair/Replace Wiring

   If the diagnostic tests revealed a short to power in the harness, locate the damaged section. Splice and heat-shrink the damaged wire, or replace the affected roof lighting harness section entirely.

   Replace the Light Assembly

   If the light assembly was determined to be the cause of the high voltage feedback, unbolt the faulty front inner right flood light, mount the replacement unit, and plug it into the harness.

   Reassemble and Clear Codes

   Reinstall any removed roof panels. Reconnect the battery. Turn the key to the ON position, navigate to the tractor's diagnostic monitor (CommandCenter), and clear the inactive RLC fault codes.

   Verify Repair

   Turn on the work lights and verify that the front inner right flood light illuminates correctly and that code 521557.03 does not return.
