John Deere 521562.06 – RLC (Cab Roof Module / Roof Lighting Controller): Rear Inner Right Roof Flood Light Current High
Issue description
The controller has detected an abnormally high electrical current (high amperage draw) on the circuit supplying power to the rear inner right work light mounted on the cab roof. This is typically caused by a short circuit in the wiring harness, a failed light assembly (such as an internally shorted LED or halogen bulb), or a fault within the control module itself.

Check the cause
Inspect the rear inner right roof flood light assembly for physical damage, water intrusion, or melted components that could cause an internal short.
Trace the wiring harness from the RLC (Cab Roof Module) to the rear inner right work light. Look for pinched wires, rubbed-through insulation, or corrosion at the connectors.
Disconnect the rear inner right roof light and turn the work lights on to check if the high current fault changes to a 'Current Low' or 'Open Circuit' code (such as 521562.05). If the code changes, the light assembly itself is internally shorted.
If the code remains 'Current High' with the light unplugged, use a multimeter to test the power wire for a short-to-ground between the RLC module pin and the light connector.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the machine and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes during repair.
Access the Roof Harness
Safely access the rear cab roof area. You may need to remove the roof overhang trim or light bezel depending on your specific tractor model.
Remove the Faulty Component
If diagnostics point to the light assembly, disconnect the wiring pigtail and unbolt the rear inner right flood light from its mounting bracket.
Repair Wiring (If Applicable)
If the harness was found to be shorted to the cab frame, cut out the damaged section of wire, splice in a new section using weather-sealed heat-shrink butt connectors, and wrap the harness in protective loom.
Install New Light
Mount the replacement work light to the bracket and plug in the connector. Ensure the weather seal on the connector is intact.
Test
Reconnect the battery, turn on the ignition, and activate the rear work lights. Verify the light illuminates and use a diagnostic tool to clear the 521562.06 fault code from the RLC module.
