521835.2

John Deere 521835.2 – CLC (Cab Load Center) / RLC (Roof Lighting Control): Control Unit Ground Circuit Fault / Control Software Ground Contact Fault

Issue description

The control software has detected a fault to ground, specifically noting that the flyback ground connection is missing or disconnected. This physical problem in the ground circuit often causes the control software to shut down its cab/roof functions sequentially to protect the system.

Check the cause

  1. Check for the flyback ground connection

  2. Visually inspect the main ground circuit wiring leading to the CLC/RLC module for corrosion, fraying, or loose terminal connections

  3. Use a multimeter to verify continuity on the ground circuit and ensure there are no unintended shorts to ground in the surrounding cab wiring harness

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.

  2. Locate the Module

Access the Cab Load Center (CLC) or Roof Lighting Control (RLC) module, typically located behind the interior cab trim panels or within the roof console depending on the machine model.

  3. Clean and Secure Grounds

Locate the specific flyback ground wire and the main module ground terminals. Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner and a wire brush. Re-secure the connections tightly.

  4. Repair Harness (If Applicable)

If the wiring harness shows signs of melting, chafing, or broken wires, splice in a repair or replace the affected section of the cab wiring harness.

  5. Test the Module

Reconnect the battery and cycle the key. If the ground circuit is physically intact but the code persists and cab functions remain shut down, the CLC/RLC module itself has likely suffered an internal failure and requires replacement.

  6. Reprogramming

Note that if the CLC module is replaced, the new blank module will require programming by a John Deere dealer using Service ADVISOR to sync with the machine's CAN bus system.
