521926.05

John Deere 521926.05 – RPM: Range C Solenoid Current Too Low

Issue description

The control software has detected that the electrical current value reaching the Range C solenoid valve is below the acceptable operational threshold. This typically indicates an open circuit, high resistance in the wiring, or a failing solenoid coil.

Applies to these machines

  • 6110R
  • 6120R
  • 6130R
  • 6145R
  • 6155R
  • 6175R
  • 6195R
  • 6215R
  • 6R series tractors
  • 7R series tractors

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness between the RPM (Range Power Module) and the Range C solenoid valve for open circuits, chafing, or loose/corroded connector pins

  2. Measure the resistance and current draw of the Range C solenoid valve to determine if the coil has failed internally

  3. Check the ventilation around the control unit and verify if the control software is up-to-date, as the RPM module can exhibit shifting faults if it overheats

Repair steps

  1. Allow Cooling Time

Turn off the equipment and allow the control unit to cool down, as excessive heat can sometimes cause erratic current readings or module shutdowns.

  2. Harness Repair

If the diagnostic checks reveal a broken wire or corroded connector leading to the Range C solenoid, repair or replace the affected wiring harness section.

  3. Replace the Solenoid

If the wiring is intact but the Range C solenoid coil tests out of specification (causing the low current draw), remove and replace the Range C solenoid valve.

  4. Update Software

Install the latest software updates from John Deere for the RPM to improve performance and heat management.

  5. Clear Codes and Test

Clear the fault codes using a diagnostic tool and perform a test drive, shifting through all ranges to ensure Range C engages properly without throwing the code. If the error persists, the RPM module itself may require replacement or further diagnosis by a certified technician.
