521927.17

John Deere 521927.17 – RPM: Time-Out When Engaging Range B.

Issue description

This diagnostic trouble code is generated when the control software detects that it is taking too long to engage Range B in the transmission. The control software will automatically attempt a second engagement. If it fails after several attempts, the system will log a related code (521927.07 - Range B Fault), indicating a mechanical or hydraulic problem, and Range B will be disabled until the next tractor start-up.

Applies to these machines

  • 6110R
  • 6120R
  • 6130R
  • 6145R
  • 6155R
  • 6175R
  • 6195R
  • 6215R

Check the cause

  1. Restart the tractor to reset the control software and attempt to engage the range again to clear temporary timeouts.

  2. Look for related electrical codes, such as 521927.06 (Range B Solenoid Current Too High), which indicates a shorted circuit at the solenoid.

  3. Inspect the Range B solenoid wiring for damage, short circuits, or open circuits, and verify that the solenoid is receiving a stable power supply.

  4. Inspect the transmission's hydraulic system that controls range engagement, ensuring there are no leaks and that hydraulic pressure is within the specified range.

  5. Check the internal mechanical components of the transmission for signs of wear, damage, or misalignment if electrical and hydraulic checks pass.

Repair steps

  1. Cycle Power

Turn the tractor off and back on to see if the RPM module can successfully engage Range B on a fresh startup.

  2. Electrical Testing

Use a multimeter to test the Range B solenoid valve and its wiring harness. If the wiring is shorted or damaged, repair the harness. If the solenoid coil tests out of specification, replace the Range B solenoid.

  3. Hydraulic Service

If the solenoid functions but engagement is slow, check the transmission fluid level and pressure. Replace the transmission/hydraulic filter if it is clogged and restricting flow.

  4. Mechanical Repair

If the solenoid and hydraulics are functioning perfectly, the transmission must be opened to repair or replace the worn/misaligned mechanical synchronizers or clutch packs for Range B.

  5. Software Update

Ensure the RPM (Direct Drive Range Module) software is updated to the latest version, as software updates can resolve shifting timeout parameters.
