521927.18

John Deere 521927.18 – RPM (Range Module): INFORMATION FOR OPERATOR: Range B Cannot Be Engaged.

Issue description

Generated when the transmission control software detects that a second attempt to engage Range B has failed. If the system fails to engage the range after several attempts, it indicates a mechanical or electrical problem, and the control software will disable the range until the next time the tractor is started.

Applies to these machines

  • 6110R
  • 6120R
  • 6130R
  • 6145R
  • 6155R

  • 6190R
  • 6210R
  • 6230R
  • 6250R

Check the cause

  1. Check for transmission overheating, as the control unit will prevent shifting if the temperature exceeds safe limits.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness leading to the Range B solenoid for pinched wires, chafing, or short circuits.

  3. Verify the transmission control module is receiving a stable power supply and that the overall current strength of the solenoid coils is within spec.

  4. Test the Range B solenoid using a multimeter to check the resistance and current draw to determine if the coil has failed internally.

  5. Verify if the RPM control software requires an update via John Deere Service ADVISOR.

Repair steps

  1. Cool Down & Reset

Turn off the tractor and allow the transmission to cool completely. Restart the tractor to see if the RPM module resets and re-enables Range B.

  2. Wiring Repair

If diagnostic testing reveals a short or open circuit in the transmission harness, repair or replace the damaged wiring leading to the Range B solenoid.

  3. Solenoid Replacement

If the Range B solenoid tests out of specification (shorted or open internal coil), drain the necessary transmission fluid, remove the faulty solenoid from the DirectDrive valve body, and install a new OEM solenoid.

  4. Mechanical Inspection

If the wiring and solenoid are perfectly functional but the code persists (often accompanied by code 521927.07), split the transmission range box and mechanically inspect for damaged gears, shift forks, or synchronizers.

  5. Software Update & Calibration

After replacing electrical components or repairing the transmission, connect John Deere Service ADVISOR to clear the codes, update the RPM control software, and run a transmission calibration.
