John Deere 521930.05 – GPM: Low Amps On Gear 6 Solenoid Coil

This diagnostic trouble code is generated if the control software detects that the electrical current value at the Gear 6 solenoid valve is too low. This condition typically indicates an open circuit, which could be caused by broken wiring, a disconnected or corroded connector, or a completely failed (open) solenoid coil.

   Trace the wiring harness from the Gear Shift Module (GPM) to the transmission control valve block. Look for chafed, broken, or pinched wires that would cause an open circuit.

   Disconnect the harness at the Gear 6 solenoid. Inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture ingress, or pushed-back terminals.

   Using a multimeter, measure the resistance across the pins of the Gear 6 solenoid coil. If the multimeter reads 'OL' (Open Loop) or infinite resistance, the internal coil has failed and the solenoid must be replaced.

   With the key on, check the harness side of the connector to ensure the GPM is sending the proper voltage signal to the solenoid when Gear 6 is commanded.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts during repair.

   Locate the Valve Block

   Locate the transmission control valve block where the Gear Shift Module Direct Drive solenoids are housed.

   Remove the Faulty Solenoid

   Disconnect the electrical connector from the Gear 6 solenoid. Clean the area around the valve to prevent dirt from entering the transmission hydraulic system. Unbolt or unthread the faulty solenoid valve from the manifold.

   Install the New Solenoid

   Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid valve with clean John Deere transmission fluid (Hy-Gard). Carefully insert the new solenoid and tighten it to the manufacturer's specified torque.

   Reconnect

   Plug the electrical harness back into the new solenoid, ensuring the locking tab clicks into place. Reconnect the battery.

   Clear and Test

   Turn the key on, clear the inactive 521930.05 fault code via the tractor's diagnostic monitor, and test-drive the machine to ensure Gear 6 engages properly without throwing the code.
