Gear 5 in the DirectDrive transmission has disengaged unexpectedly during operation. This condition causes a temporary disruption in operation, and limited or no function of the transmission may result until the gear is successfully re-engaged.

   Operator Action / Re-engagement Test: Follow the on-screen instructions to attempt to re-engage Gear 5. If the second attempt to engage Gear 5 fails, the system may log a secondary code: GPM 521931.17 (Time-Out When Engaging Gear 5).

   Software Check: Ensure the GPM control software is up to date and functioning correctly, as software bugs can cause unexpected gear disengagement.

   Visual & Mechanical Inspection: Check the transmission system for signs of wear, damage, or improper adjustments that would physically force the gear to jump out.

   Solenoid Circuit Check: Verify that the Gear 5 solenoid is receiving proper voltage and does not have an open circuit or high current draw.

   Clear and Retest

   Clear the active fault codes and operate the tractor to see if the gear disengagement is a recurring hard fault or a one-time anomaly.

   Flash the GPM controller with the latest John Deere software payload to rule out logic errors.
