Issue description

This diagnostic trouble code is generated when the control software detects that the electrical current value at the Range A solenoid is too high. This typically indicates a shorted circuit in the solenoid coil or the wiring harness. When this code is triggered, the transmission range is disabled until the next tractor start-up to protect the system.

Check the cause

  1. Verify Solenoid Operation: Test the Range A solenoid coil directly by measuring the resistance across the solenoid pins using a multimeter. If the resistance is near zero (shorted), the coil has failed internally.

  2. Inspect the Wiring Harness: Check the wiring harness running from the RPM (Direct Drive Range Module) to the Range A solenoid for chafed wires, melted insulation, or pinched lines that could be shorting to the tractor chassis (ground) or to another power wire.

  3. Check Connectors: Disconnect the harness at the solenoid and the module. Inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture, or debris that could bridge the connection and cause a short.

  4. Hydraulic System Inspection: Ensure there are no hydraulic leaks or mechanical binding around the solenoid that could be causing the valve to overheat and short the coil.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

    Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the battery to ensure safety while working on the electrical system.

  2. Locate the Solenoid

    Locate the Range A solenoid valve on the Direct Drive transmission housing.

  3. Disconnect and Inspect

    Unplug the electrical connector from the solenoid. Clean the area around the valve to prevent dirt from entering the transmission.

  4. Replace the Solenoid

  6. Reassemble and Clear Codes

    Reconnect the electrical connector, reconnect the battery, and start the tractor. Use a diagnostic tool to clear the 521935.06 code.

  7. Test Drive

    Engage the transmission and shift through the ranges to confirm Range A engages smoothly without triggering the code.
