John Deere 521935.07 – RPM (Direct Drive Range Module): Range A Fault
Issue description
The control software detects that the transmission's Range A cannot be engaged after several attempts by the module, typically indicating a mechanical problem with the transmission or the shifting mechanism. As a protective equipment reaction, the system disables Range A entirely until the next time the tractor is started.

Check the cause
Restart the tractor to see if the module can successfully select the gear on a fresh attempt, as the range is disabled until the next start-up.
Check for related electrical companion codes that indicate an electrical failure rather than a mechanical one (e.g., 521935.05 for open circuit or 521935.06 for short circuit).
If electrical codes are present, inspect the Range A solenoid wiring harness for damage, verify a stable power supply to the RPM module, and test the solenoid itself.
Repair steps
Clear and Reset
Restart the tractor and clear the codes. Attempt to engage Range A under normal operating conditions to see if the fault returns.
Electrical Verification
If the fault persists, use a multimeter to test the Range A shift solenoid and its circuit. Repair any damaged wiring or replace the solenoid if it fails resistance testing.
Mechanical Teardown
If the electrical circuit and solenoid are perfectly functional, the ".07" code confirms an internal mechanical failure. The tractor will need to be split to access the Direct Drive transmission range box.
Internal Inspection
Inspect the Range A synchronizer, planetary gears, and the direct drive clutch assembly for excessive wear, slipping, or physical breakage.
Reassembly
Replace the damaged mechanical components (such as the clutch plates or drum), reassemble the planetary housing, and refill the transmission with approved John Deere hydraulic/transmission fluid.
