John Deere 521979.06 – PL1: Keep-Alive Voltage for Park Lock, Current Too High

The control software detects an excessively high electrical current in the circuit responsible for the keep-alive voltage of the park lock, indicating a short circuit within the system. This forces the control unit to shut off the driver outputs for gear shifting to protect the circuit.

   Park the tractor on level ground and securely block the wheels for safety before diagnosing the park lock system.

   Locate the park lock solenoid/actuator, typically mounted near the transmission or rear axle housing.

   Inspect the park lock solenoid jumper wiring harness and main harness for rubbed-through insulation, pinched wires, or melted connectors that would cause a short circuit to ground or power.

   Unplug the park lock solenoid and test its internal resistance with a multimeter to check for an internal short inside the electromagnetic coil.

   Secure the machine

   Ensure the machine is on flat ground with wheels chocked.

   Disconnect battery

   Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent accidental shorts during repair.

   Disconnect electrical connector

   Disconnect the electrical connector from the park lock solenoid valve/actuator.

   Replace wiring harness

   If the wiring harness is damaged, replace the specific jumper harness section.

   Remove faulty solenoid

   If the solenoid is internally shorted, unbolt and remove the faulty park lock solenoid valve from the transmission/axle housing.

   Clean mounting surface

   Clean the mounting surface, ensuring no dirt enters the hydraulic/transmission fluid.

   Install new solenoid/actuator

   Install the new park lock solenoid/actuator and torque to OEM specifications.

   Reconnect electrical harness and battery

   Reconnect the electrical harness and the battery.

   Clear fault code and test

   Clear the PL1 521979.06 fault code via the diagnostic monitor and test the park lock engagement. Listen for the reassuring 'click' of the valve engaging.
