522011.31

John Deere 522011.31 – OIC: Internal Software Issue With The OIC Main Control Module

Issue description

The OIC module has detected an internal fault, typically an error when reading the internal memory (EEPROM) or a failed end-of-line memory check at start-up.

Applies to these machines

  • 6110M
  • 6120M
  • 6130M
  • 6145M
  • 6155M
  • 6175M
  • 6195M
  • 6110R
  • 6120R
  • 6130R
  • 6145R
  • 6155R
  • 6175R
  • 6195R
  • 6215R
  • 6090MC
  • 6090RC
  • 6100MC
  • 6100RC
  • 6110MC
  • 6110RC

Check the cause

  1. Scan the RPT (Rear Chassis Module) and PTF (Front Chassis Module) for other active diagnostic trouble codes to determine if the issue is isolated to the OIC or indicates a broader CAN bus communication failure.

  2. Check the overall integrity of the OIC control system, ensuring there are no intermittent power supply (battery voltage) or grounding issues, as voltage drops during startup can cause the internal EEPROM memory check to fail.

  3. Connect a diagnostic tool (e.g., John Deere Service ADVISOR or Jaltest) to read the ECU's technical data and verify if the OIC control software is running an outdated version known to have memory bugs.

Repair steps

  1. Reset the OIC Control Module

Perform a hard reset of the OIC control module to attempt to clear the internal error. Follow the manufacturer's procedure for resetting the module (often involving a battery disconnect/reconnect or a software reset via the diagnostic tool).

  2. Update the Software

If the code returns after a reset, the internal software may be corrupted or outdated. Flash/install the latest available software updates for the OIC control module using Service ADVISOR.

  3. Inspect Wiring

Inspect the CAN bus wiring harness and connectors between the OIC, RPT, and PTF modules for corrosion, loose pins, or damage that could be interrupting module boot-up sequences.

  4. Replace the Module

If software updates and wiring checks do not resolve the issue, the OIC module has suffered a permanent internal hardware/memory failure (EEPROM failure) and must be replaced.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • OIC Control Module (Operator Interface Control / Cab Module)

Must be programmed and calibrated to the specific tractor's configuration using John Deere Service ADVISOR.
