John Deere 522092.12 – GPM (Gear Shift Module Direct Drive): Transmission Jumped Out Of Gear 3
Issue description
Informational code alerting the operator that Gear 3 has disengaged unexpectedly during operation.
Applies to these machines
8 machines- 6110R
- 6120R
- 6130R

Check the cause
Attempt to re-engage Gear 3 to see if it holds, as it may have been a transient operational anomaly
Check the GPM for related solenoid codes like 522092.05 (current too low/open circuit) or 522092.06 (current too high/short circuit)
Check for mechanical lockout code GPM 522092.07, which indicates the gear cannot be engaged after several attempts
Visually inspect the wiring harness and connectors leading to the DirectDrive transmission solenoids for chafing, corrosion, or loose connections
Repair steps
Clear and Test
Acknowledge the code on the display and attempt to re-engage Gear 3.
Restart the Tractor
If the gear has been disabled by the GPM (often accompanied by code 522092.07), turn the tractor off and restart it to reset the control software and re-enable the gear.
Electrical Repair
If solenoid codes (522092.05 or .06) are present, use a multimeter to test the Gear 3 solenoid circuit for continuity and proper resistance. Repair any damaged wiring in the transmission harness.
Solenoid Replacement
If the wiring is intact but the solenoid fails electrical testing, replace the Gear 3 transmission solenoid valve.
Mechanical Repair
If no electrical faults are found but the transmission continues to jump out of Gear 3 (logging 522092.12 and 522092.07), the transmission has an internal mechanical failure. This requires a transmission teardown by a certified technician to inspect and replace the damaged Gear 3 mechanical components.
