Issue description

Check the cause
Check for other active codes — diagnose any transmission (PTA, PTD, PTQ) or power supply codes first, as a failed transmission controller will stop broadcasting CAN messages
Inspect the physical operation of the Left-Hand Reverser / Drive Lever to ensure it clicks into its detents properly and is not physically damaged
Inspect the CAN bus wiring harness between the FCC (Dash Module), the Left-Hand Reverser, and the Transmission Control Unit for chafed wires, corrosion, or loose pins
Verify that the FCC and the transmission controllers are receiving proper unswitched and switched battery voltage (12V-14V) and have clean ground connections
Repair steps
Connect Diagnostic Equipment
Hook up John Deere Service ADVISOR to the machine's diagnostic port. Pull all active and stored codes across all modules.
Address Root Modules First
If communication with the PTA/PTD/PTQ transmission module is entirely lost, troubleshoot the power, ground, and CAN lines to the transmission controller.
Test the Reverser Circuit
If the transmission controller is online but the reverser message is missing, disconnect the Left-Hand Reverser control assembly. Use a multimeter to check for continuity and verify that the reverser's internal sensors are sending the correct voltage sweeps/signals to the controller when moved between Forward, Neutral, and Reverse.
Perform Harness Continuity Test
Pin out the CAN High and CAN Low lines between the FCC and the transmission controller. Resistance across the CAN bus should be approximately 60 ohms with the battery disconnected. Repair any open circuits or shorts to ground.
Replace Faulty Component
If the wiring is intact and the transmission controller is functioning, but the reverser lever is dead or failing to output a signal, replace the Left-Hand Reverser Control Assembly.
Calibrate and Clear
After replacing the reverser or repairing the harness, clear all codes. You may need to perform a reverser/transmission calibration via Service ADVISOR so the FCC and transmission modules relearn the lever's neutral, forward, and reverse detent positions.
Test Drive
Start the tractor and shift between forward and reverse to ensure the code does not return and the transmission engages smoothly.
