John Deere 522124.31 – FCC (Flex Box Cab Controller): Left-Hand Reverser Message Missing / Drive Lever Message Missing
Issue description
CAN BUS Message Issue involving communication between the Dash Module and other control modules. The control software is failing to receive or interpret the data regarding the position of the reverse drive lever over the CAN bus network, which can prevent the tractor from shifting gears or recognizing directional commands.

Check the cause
Check for accompanying transmission (PTA, PTD, PTQ) or FCC codes (e.g., 524022.31, 524264.02) that might pinpoint a hardware failure in the lever itself.
Inspect the cab load center and dash fuses related to the FCC (e.g., F32 - FCC 10 Amp) and operator controls.
Verify CAN bus voltage and resistance to ensure the network is intact between the FCC and the transmission controllers.
Inspect the Left-Hand Reverser / Drive Lever position sensors and the physical wiring harness connecting the lever to the steering column/dash module for chafing, pinched wires, or disconnected plugs.
Repair steps
Power Down and Isolate
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery ground before servicing electrical components.
Access the FCC and Reverser
Remove the steering column shrouds or dash panels to access the Left-Hand Reverser switch assembly and the FCC (Dash Module).
Harness Inspection & Cleaning
Disconnect the harness from the Left-Hand Reverser and the FCC. Inspect the connector pins for corrosion, moisture, or pushed-back pins. Clean with contact cleaner and apply dielectric grease.
Continuity Testing
Using a multimeter and the machine's specific wiring diagram, perform a continuity test on the CAN High and CAN Low wires between the reverser lever, the FCC, and the transmission ECU. Repair any open circuits or shorts to ground.
Component Replacement
If the wiring is good but the lever position is still not being read, replace the Left-Hand Reverser switch/lever assembly. If the reverser is functioning but the FCC is failing to process or transmit the CAN messages to the transmission, the FCC module itself has failed and must be replaced.
Reassembly and Calibration
Reconnect all modules, clear the diagnostic trouble codes, and perform a test drive to ensure the transmission engages in Forward, Neutral, and Reverse without throwing the missing message code. (Note: A new FCC may require dealer programming/calibration using Service ADVISOR).
