John Deere 522192.04 – PTQ: Low Voltage On Signal Line From Range A-B Position Sensor Command Quad

The control module is receiving a voltage signal from the transmission's Range A-B position sensor that is below the minimum acceptable threshold. This is typically caused by a short to ground in the wiring harness, a corroded connector, or an internal failure of the sensor itself.

   Visually inspect the Range A-B position sensor wiring harness routing on the transmission housing for any chafing, rubbing, or pinched wires that could cause a short to ground.

   Disconnect the sensor harness and check the connector for moisture, dirt, or corroded/bent pins.

   With the key ON (engine off), use a multimeter to verify that the sensor is receiving the correct reference voltage (typically 5V) and has a solid ground.

   Check the continuity of the signal wire from the sensor connector back to the PTQ module harness, testing specifically for a short to ground.

   If the wiring, reference voltage, and ground are all good, conclude that the sensor has failed internally and requires replacement.

   Prep the Machine

   Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, turn off the engine, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.

   Locate the Sensor

   Locate the Range A-B position sensor on the transmission housing.

   Clean the Area

   Thoroughly clean the area around the sensor base to prevent dirt or debris from falling into the transmission housing when the sensor is removed.

   Remove the Sensor

   Disconnect the electrical connector. Remove the retaining bolt(s) holding the sensor in place and carefully pull the sensor straight out of the housing.

   Install the New Sensor

   Lubricate the O-ring on the new sensor with clean John Deere transmission/hydraulic oil. Insert the sensor into the port and secure it with the retaining bolt (torque to OEM spec).

   Reassemble and Calibrate

   Reconnect the electrical harness and the battery. Turn the key ON and clear the PTQ fault codes. Depending on the tractor's software, you may need to perform a transmission calibration procedure via the cab display or John Deere Service ADVISOR so the PTQ module can relearn the neutral and slide positions for Range A-B.
