John Deere 522196.15 – PTQ: Neutral Position Not Registered On Signal Line From Range A-B Position Sensor Command Quad, Main Control Module (PTQ)
Issue description
The transmission control system is unable to detect the neutral position for the A/B slide (Range A-B) due to a missing, interrupted, or out-of-range signal from the position sensor. This typically results in a transmission system malfunction where gear selection is limited or disabled to prevent mechanical damage or engine stall.

Check the cause
Return the transmission shift lever to the 'Park' or 'Neutral' position to attempt an operator reset and vehicle recovery.
Power cycle the tractor by turning the ignition switch OFF, waiting a moment, and turning it back ON to clear potential temporary glitches.
Physically inspect the wiring harness and connector leading to the Range A-B position sensor on the transmission housing for frayed wires, corrosion, or loose connections.
Verify the signal voltage at the sensor connector using a multimeter to confirm if the sensor is receiving and sending the correct voltage.
Repair steps
Secure the Machine
Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the engine.
Locate the Sensor
Locate the Range A-B position sensor (slide A/B sensor) on the transmission housing.
Test the Circuit
Disconnect the sensor and test the wiring harness back to the PTQ module for continuity and shorts.
Replace the Sensor
If the wiring is intact and the power cycle did not clear the code, the sensor itself has likely failed internally. Remove the mounting bolt(s), pull the old sensor, and install the new OEM position sensor.
Recalibrate
After replacing transmission sensors on CommandQuad/AutoQuad systems, a transmission calibration procedure via the tractor's CommandCenter or John Deere Service ADVISOR software is often required to teach the PTQ module the new sensor's exact neutral, high, and low voltage limits.
