John Deere 522200.17 – PTQ: Low Voltage On Signal Line From Range A-B Position Sensor
Issue description
The transmission control module is receiving a voltage signal from the position sensor for slide A/B that is too low (below the acceptable threshold). This typically points to a short to ground in the sensor wiring, an open circuit, or a complete failure of the position sensor itself. When this code triggers, the transmission may disengage to prevent engine stall, and vehicle motion will be inhibited.
Applies to these machines
7 machines- 6110M
- 6120M
- 6130M
- 6145M
- 6155M
- 6175M
- 6195M
Check the cause
Attempt Vehicle Recovery: Return the shift lever to the 'Park' or 'Neutral' position.
Power Cycle: Cycle the key switch (turning the tractor off and back on) to clear potential communication or sensor glitches.
Follow On-Screen Prompts: Follow any immediate solutions presented on the tractor's CommandCenter display.
Wiring Inspection: Inspect the wiring harness leading to the Range A-B position sensor on the transmission for visible damage, pinched wires, or corroded connector pins.
Repair steps
Secure the tractor
Park the tractor safely, turn off the engine, and engage the parking brake.
Locate the sensor
Locate the Range A-B rotary position sensor on the transmission housing.
Test the wiring harness
Disconnect the sensor's wiring harness. Use a multimeter to check the connector for proper reference voltage and ensure there is no short to ground in the chassis wiring.
Determine sensor failure
If the wiring harness tests fine, the sensor itself has failed internally and must be replaced.
Remove the faulty sensor
Unbolt and remove the faulty Range A-B position sensor.
Install the replacement sensor
Install the replacement rotary position sensor and reconnect the wiring harness.
Verify code clearance
Turn the key switch on to verify the 522200.17 code has cleared from the CommandCenter.
Calibrate transmission circuit
Depending on the exact transmission variant, a transmission circuit calibration may be required after replacing shift slide sensors. If the code cannot be cleared, OEM manuals advise contacting a John Deere dealer.
