522269.07

John Deere 522269.07 – XMC: Steering Control Valve, Malfunction (Steer Right Valve Stuck Open)

Issue description

This error code indicates that the steering control valve—specifically the solenoid valve responsible for steering to the right—is sticking in its open position. This malfunction directly impacts the vehicle's ability to maneuver correctly and can cause severe steering control issues, particularly when using the AutoTrac™ automatic steering system.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the steering control valve for any signs of external damage, leaks, or debris that may be causing the internal spool/solenoid to stick

  2. Ensure the hydraulic fluid is clean and at the proper level, as contaminated fluid is a primary cause of sticking hydraulic valves

  3. Verify the wiring harness and connections to the right steer solenoid to ensure it is not receiving a constant voltage signal (short to power) that is holding it open

  4. Check if the XMC module requires a software update, as John Deere frequently releases patches for AutoTrac control logic

Repair steps

  1. Clean the Valve

Remove the steering control valve and clean it thoroughly to remove any debris or sludge that might be causing the right-turn solenoid to stick.

  2. Replace the Valve/Solenoid

If cleaning does not resolve the sticking condition, or if the valve is scored/damaged, replace the steering control valve assembly or the specific right-steer solenoid.

  3. Reprogram the Control Unit

If a new module or updated valve is installed, use John Deere Service ADVISOR to reprogram the XMC/BCU control unit with the current software file.

  4. Calibrate the System

Perform necessary configurations and calibrations, specifically the Steering Wheel Module calibration and Wheel Angle Sensor calibration, as required by the OEM manual.

  5. Clear Codes

Delete the diagnostic trouble codes from the system and test drive the tractor to ensure AutoTrac™ and manual steering operate correctly without throwing the code again.
