John Deere 522270.07 – XMC: Steering Control Valve Left Sticking

The steering control valve (specifically the solenoid/valve responsible for steering the machine to the left) is physically or electrically sticking in its open position, which impacts maneuverability and disables or limits the AutoTrac automatic steering system.

   Inspect the wiring harness connected to the steering control valve for any signs of damage, breaks, disconnection, or corrosion.

   Test the continuity of the circuit leading to the left steering solenoid to ensure it is not shorting to power, which could hold the valve open electrically.

   Use John Deere Service ADVISOR to run a functionality test on the steering control valve and the steering wheel position sensors to verify if the module is commanding the valve open or if it is physically stuck.

   Check the hydraulic system for contamination. Debris in the hydraulic fluid is a primary cause of valve spools physically sticking in the open position.

   Depressurize the System

   Turn off the machine and relieve all hydraulic pressure from the steering system.

   Disconnect Electricals

   Unplug the wiring harness connectors from the AutoTrac Steering Control Valve solenoids.

   Remove the Valve

   Disconnect the hydraulic lines (cap them to prevent contamination) and unbolt the steering control valve assembly from its mounting block.

   Inspect/Clean

   Inspect the valve spool for debris, scoring, or contamination. If minor debris is found, clean the valve block thoroughly.

   Replace if Damaged

   If the valve spool is permanently scored, damaged, or continues to stick after cleaning, the entire AutoTrac Steering Control Valve assembly must be replaced.

   Reinstallation

   Install the new steering control valve, reconnect the hydraulic lines, and plug in the electrical connectors.

   Bleed and Calibrate

   Bleed the air from the hydraulic steering system. Connect John Deere Service ADVISOR to clear the XMC 522270.07 fault code and perform the mandatory steering system/AutoTrac calibration procedure.
