John Deere 522311.03 – VLC: There is High Voltage Detected on The Rear Window Washer Pump
Issue description
The controller is detecting a higher voltage than expected on the circuit that powers the rear window washer pump, typically pointing to a short to power in the wiring harness or an internal short within the pump motor itself.

Check the cause
Visually inspect the rear washer pump and the wiring harness leading from the VLC for chafing, pinched wires, or melted insulation that could cause a short to power.
Disconnect the electrical connector at the rear washer pump and check for water intrusion, corrosion, or bent pins.
Test the circuit with a multimeter: Turn the ignition ON (engine off) and probe the power supply wire at the pump connector. If voltage is present when the rear washer switch is not activated, there is a short to power in the harness between the VLC and the pump.
If the harness tests fine, the internal windings of the washer pump motor have likely shorted out, causing the high voltage/high current spike.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the machine and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes during repair.
Access the Pump
Locate the washer fluid reservoir. Depending on the cab configuration, you may need to remove a protective panel to access the base of the reservoir where the pumps are mounted.
Drain Fluid
Have a catch pan ready, as pulling the pump will drain the washer fluid from the reservoir.
Remove the Faulty Pump
Disconnect the electrical connector. Disconnect the rubber fluid hose from the pump nozzle. Carefully pull the pump straight out of the rubber grommet in the reservoir.
Install the New Pump
Lubricate the new rubber grommet (usually supplied with the new pump) with a little soapy water and press it into the reservoir. Push the new washer pump firmly into the grommet. Reconnect the fluid hose and the electrical connector.
Test
Reconnect the battery, refill the washer fluid, and turn the key ON. Clear the stored 522311.03 code from the VLC monitor and test the rear washer function to ensure the code does not return.
