John Deere 522312.03 – VLC: There is High Voltage Detected on The Front Window Washer Pump

The control module is detecting unexpected high voltage on the front washer pump circuit. This typically indicates a short to power in the wiring harness, a failure within the pump itself causing a short to another live circuit, or a fault within the control module failing to switch the circuit off properly.

   Visually inspect the wiring harness running from the Vehicle Load Center (VLC) to the front windshield washer pump for pinched wires, chafing, or melted insulation that could cause a short to power.

   Disconnect the electrical connector at the front washer pump, turn the key ON (without activating the washer switch), and use a multimeter to check for voltage at the harness connector to isolate a harness or VLC short.

   If no voltage is present on the harness when disconnected, check the washer pump itself for an internal short.

   Inspect the pins at the VLC module and the pump connector for corrosion, water intrusion, or bent pins that could bridge circuits.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes.

   Locate the Pump

   Locate the front windshield washer pump, which is mounted directly to the base of the windshield washer fluid reservoir.

   Disconnect

   Unplug the electrical connector from the washer pump.

   Drain/Catch Fluid

   Have a catch pan ready. Disconnect the fluid hose from the pump nipple (fluid will drain from the reservoir).

   Remove the Pump

   Pull the pump straight out of the rubber grommet in the reservoir.

   Harness Repair (If Applicable)

   If your diagnostics proved the harness was shorted to power, trace the wire back to the VLC, locate the damaged section, splice in new wire using weather-sealed connectors, and wrap it in protective loom.

   Install New Pump

   If the pump was the culprit, press the new washer pump firmly into the reservoir grommet. Reattach the fluid hose and plug in the electrical connector.

   Test

   Reconnect the battery, refill the washer fluid, clear the fault codes via the monitor, and test the front washer switch to ensure proper operation and that the code does not return.
