John Deere 522343.05 – RLC, ATC, or ETC: Heated Rear Window, Current Too Low

The power module measures less than 350 mA at the output for the heated rear window's resistor (R17) on lead 2031, indicating an open circuit. This is typically caused by a broken wire, a disconnected terminal on the glass, a blown relay, or a damaged heating grid on the window itself.

   Visually inspect the rear window heating grid (Resistor R17) for physical scratches or breaks in the conductive lines.

   Check the electrical spade terminals glued to the glass to ensure they have not snapped off.

   Trace lead 2031 from the rear window up to the cab roof module, looking for pinched wires, worn insulation, or loose/corroded connectors.

   Disconnect the wires from the rear window and use a multimeter to test for continuity across the window's heating grid. No continuity indicates a broken grid.

   Turn the tractor key to ON, activate the rear defroster switch, and use a multimeter to check if 12V is reaching the window terminals. If voltage is present but the code persists, the grid is the issue. If no voltage is present, the issue lies in the wiring, relay, or the RLC module.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery ground to ensure safety while working on the electrical system.

   Address the Open Circuit

   If the grid terminal is detached: Use a conductive rear window defogger repair kit/epoxy to reattach the spade terminal to the glass. If a grid line is broken: Use a conductive grid repair paint pen to bridge the broken gap in the defroster line. If the glass is shattered or the grid is beyond repair: Replace the rear window glass entirely. If the wiring is broken: Splice and solder the broken wire on lead 2031, sealing it with heat-shrink tubing.

   Reassemble and Reconnect

   Reconnect the wiring harness to the rear window terminals and reconnect the battery.

   Clear Codes and Test

   Connect a John Deere Service ADVISOR or compatible OBD diagnostic tool to the CAN BUS port. Clear the 522343.05 fault code. Turn on the tractor and activate the rear window heater. The module should now read a current draw greater than 350 mA, and the code should not return.
