Issue description

The tractor's control unit stopped receiving valid data from the attached implement via the implement CAN Bus network, or AutoTrac™ / Tractor Implement Automation™ (TIA) messages are missing or invalid, causing automated functions to deactivate.

Check the cause

  1. Return the shift lever to Park and cycle the tractor's key switch (turn off and back on) to see if the communication fault is a temporary software glitch.

  2. Inspect the 9-pin ISOBUS implement connector at the rear of the tractor for dirt, bent pins, loose connections, or corrosion.

  3. If the implement CAN bus adapter harness is not currently in use, ensure it is properly unplugged from the ISO 11783 location, or that its four-pin loopback connectors are plugged together.

  4. If the error is tied to AutoTrac guidance, verify the Terrain Compensation Module (TCM) is turned on and calibrated.

  5. Use diagnostic tools to monitor CAN traffic and ensure the CAN Bus network is not overloaded with unnecessary messages.

Repair steps

  1. Secure the Machine

    Park the tractor on level ground, engage the parking brake, and turn off the engine.

  2. Clean and Re-seat Connectors

    Disconnect the implement from the tractor's ISOBUS receptacle. Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner and apply dielectric grease to prevent moisture intrusion. Reconnect securely.

  3. Inspect the Wiring Harness

    Trace the ISO Cab Implement CAN Bus Adapter Wiring Harness from the implement connection to the tractor's cab/chassis module. Look for pinched wires, chafing, or damaged connectors. Repair or replace any damaged sections.

  4. Test the CAN Terminator

    Locate the CAN bus terminator resistor on the implement harness circuit. With the battery disconnected, test the resistance across the CAN High and CAN Low pins (it should typically read 60 ohms). Replace the terminator if it is out of spec.

  5. Update Software

    If physical connections and terminators are sound, connect John Deere Service ADVISOR. Check for software bugs or compatibility issues between the implement and the tractor. Update the implement control software and the tractor's PTF/XSC module firmware to the latest versions.

  6. Clear Codes and Test

    Clear the 522390.09 fault code and perform a test run with the implement engaged to verify that Tractor Implement Automation functions correctly without dropping communication.
