John Deere 522395.04 – PTA or TCU: Low Voltage On Clutch K2 Solenoid / Solenoid Valve for Clutch 2, Voltage Too Low
Issue description
This diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is generated when the control software registers a voltage value at the solenoid valve for Clutch 2 (K2) that does not correspond with the switch status of the clutch. It typically indicates a short to ground in the solenoid valve circuit or a defective solenoid valve. It results in limited or no function of the transmission (or protective mode) until the error is corrected.

Check the cause
Inspect the entire solenoid valve circuit for any short circuits to ground
Test the solenoid valve using a multimeter to measure the voltage output and resistance, comparing the resistance to OEM specifications to check for internal failure
Examine all wiring harnesses and connectors associated with the Clutch 2 solenoid for signs of physical damage, chafing, or corrosion
Ensure proper grounding by verifying that the solenoid valve circuit is properly grounded and correct any grounding issues
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the machine, remove the key, and disconnect the battery to ensure safety while working on the transmission electrical system.
Locate the K2 Solenoid
Consult your specific machine's component technical manual (CTM) to locate the transmission control valve block and identify the Clutch 2 (K2) proportional solenoid valve.
Repair Wiring
If the diagnostic checks revealed chafed wires or corroded pins (causing the short to ground), repair or replace the damaged section of the wiring harness or connector.
Replace the Solenoid
If the wiring is intact but the solenoid failed the multimeter resistance/voltage test, remove the retaining hardware for the K2 solenoid valve and extract it from the transmission valve block.
Install New Solenoid
Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid with clean transmission fluid, seat it into the valve block, and torque the retaining bolts to OEM specifications.
Reassemble and Clear Codes
Reconnect the electrical harness, reconnect the battery, and power on the machine. Use John Deere Service ADVISOR to clear the 522395.04 code and run a transmission calibration/test to verify the repair.
