522395.05

John Deere 522395.05 – Transmission Module IVT (PTA) or TCU (Transmission Control Unit): Low Amps On Clutch K2 Solenoid

Issue description

The control software registers a current value or resistance at the solenoid valve for Clutch 2 (K2) that does not correspond with the expected switch status, indicating an open circuit, insufficient current flow, or a defective solenoid valve. This causes the transmission to enter a protective mode with limited or no function.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect all wiring and harness connectors between the PTA/TCU and the Clutch 2 (K2) solenoid valve for signs of physical damage, chafing, or corrosion.

  2. Use a multimeter to check the circuit for open lines or shorts to ground, specifically checking common power wires like the P78 Red wire between the load center and transmission control valve.

  3. Measure the resistance (ohms) and voltage output at the K2 solenoid valve using a multimeter. An open reading or abnormally low voltage indicates a failed internal coil.

  4. Verify that the solenoid valve circuit is properly grounded, as poor grounds can cause voltage and current irregularities that trigger this code.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Turn off the ignition and disconnect the negative battery cable before servicing transmission electrical components.

  2. Access the Transmission Control Valve

Locate the transmission control valve block where the clutch solenoids are housed.

  3. Repair Wiring

If the diagnostic checks revealed chafed wires, broken pins, or corroded connectors in the transmission harness, repair or replace the affected harness section.

  4. Replace the Solenoid

Clean the area around the K2 solenoid, disconnect the electrical connector, remove the defective solenoid, lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid with clean transmission hydraulic fluid, and install/torque to OEM specifications.

  5. Reassemble and Calibrate

Reconnect the electrical harness and battery, power on the machine, clear stored fault codes, and perform a transmission calibration procedure.
