John Deere 522451.04 – PTP: Wheel Angle Sensor B67 (WAS), Channel 2 Voltage Too Low

The Powertrain Control Module (PTP) is receiving a signal from Channel 2 of the front axle Wheel Angle Sensor (B67) that has dropped below the acceptable voltage threshold. This typically points to a short to ground, a severed wire in the harness, or an internal failure of the potentiometer inside the sensor itself.

   Locate the Wheel Angle Sensor (B67) on the front steering axle and inspect the sensor linkage for physical damage, bending, or disconnection.

   Disconnect the sensor pigtail and check the pins for corrosion, moisture, or pushed-back terminals.

   Using a multimeter, verify that the sensor is receiving the correct 5V reference voltage from the PTP module.

   Test the signal wire (Channel 2) for continuity back to the module and ensure it is not shorted to ground.

   Observe the live sensor voltage on the John Deere CommandCenter/display while manually turning the steering wheel. If the voltage drops out or remains flatlined at 0V, the sensor has failed internally.

   Prepare machine

   Park the machine on a level surface, center the steering, turn off the engine, and remove the key.

   Clean sensor area

   Clean the area around the front axle steering cylinder where the Wheel Angle Sensor (B67) is mounted to prevent dirt ingress.

   Disconnect harness

   Disconnect the electrical harness connector from the sensor.

   Remove sensor

   Unbolt the sensor linkage and remove the mounting hardware securing the sensor to the axle housing.

   Install new sensor

   Install the new Wheel Angle Sensor. Ensure the mechanical linkage is properly aligned so the sensor's sweep matches the physical travel of the steering cylinder.

   Reconnect and secure wiring

   Reconnect the electrical harness and secure any loose wiring with zip ties to prevent rubbing during axle oscillation.

   Clear diagnostic codes

   Turn the key to the ON position and clear the stored diagnostic codes.

   Calibrate sensor

   Perform a Wheel Angle Sensor Calibration via the cab display. Failing to do so will immediately trigger related codes and AutoTrac/steering functions will be disabled.
