John Deere 522454.04 – PTR: Creep Position Sensor Signal Voltage Issue
Issue description
The Main Control Module has noted an issue with the signal voltage from the Creep Position Sensor. The controller is receiving a voltage signal from the creep control potentiometer that is out of the expected or normal operating range, pointing to a circuit failure or a faulty sensor.
Applies to these machines
9 machines- 5065M
- 5075M
- 5085M
- 5095M
- 5095MH
- 5105M
- 5015ML
- 204L

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness connections leading to the Creep Position Sensor for loose pins, corrosion, or physical damage that could cause a voltage drop or short circuit.
Use a multimeter to verify the signal voltage coming from the creep control potentiometer and compare it against the specified range to determine if the sensor has an internal short or open circuit.
Check for related potentiometer codes (such as 522454.03, 522454.12, or 522454.24) to further isolate whether the issue is a dead short, an open circuit, or a mechanical fault.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery to ensure safety while working on the PTR electrical circuits.
Locate the Sensor
Locate the Creep Position Sensor / Creep Control Potentiometer on the machine's transmission or linkage assembly.
Disconnect and Inspect
Unplug the sensor's wiring harness. Clean the connector contacts if any dirt or mild corrosion is present.
Replace the Sensor
If the wiring is intact but the sensor failed the voltage test, remove the mounting hardware securing the potentiometer and install the new OEM replacement part.
Reassemble and Reconnect
Secure the new sensor and plug the wiring harness back in. Reconnect the battery.
Clear the Codes
Access the diagnostic menu on the monitor to clear the inactive 522454.04 code.
Test Operation
Start the engine and test the creep control function to ensure the machine operates smoothly without throwing the code again.
