John Deere 522549.02 – AIC: Armrest Engine Speed Control Module Circuit Conflict

The system detects a circuit conflict where the ON contact and OFF contact are showing the exact same value for the engine speed memory button / foot pedal lock button located on the hand throttle unit. Because the controller receives conflicting simultaneous signals (both ON and OFF), the system disables the function for safety.

   Cycle Power: Turn the tractor's ignition off, wait a few moments, and turn it back on to see if the module resets and clears the active fault.

   Physical Button Inspection: Inspect the engine speed memory button on the hand throttle unit. Check if the button is physically stuck, jammed by debris, or lacks a tactile "click" when pressed.

   Wiring and Connector Check: Inspect the wiring harness connecting the Armrest Engine Speed Control Module to the main AIC unit. Look for pinched wires, chafing, or corrosion in the connector pins that could be causing a short circuit between the ON and OFF signal wires.

   Voltage/Continuity Test: Use a multimeter to test the button's contacts. If continuity is present on both the ON and OFF circuits simultaneously without the button being pressed, the switch/module has failed internally.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts during repair.

   Access the Module

   Carefully remove the trim panels on the CommandARM™ / armrest console to expose the Armrest Engine Speed Control Module (which houses the hand throttle and memory buttons).

   Disconnect the Harness

   Unplug the electrical connector from the bottom of the Engine Speed Control Module. Inspect the pins on both the harness side and the module side for bent pins or corrosion. Clean if necessary.

   Replace the Module

   If the wiring harness tests fine and the button is internally shorted, the Armrest Engine Speed Control Module must be replaced as a complete unit (the buttons are typically integrated). Remove the mounting screws securing the module to the armrest and lift it out.

   Install the New Part

   Drop the new Engine Speed Control Module into the armrest, secure it with the mounting hardware, and plug in the electrical connector.

   Reassemble and Test

   Reinstall the armrest trim panels. Reconnect the battery, turn the key to the ON position, and verify that fault code AIC 522549.02 has moved from "Active" to "Stored." Test the engine speed memory button to ensure proper operation.
