522845.16

John Deere 522845.16 – XMC (Steering System Control Unit / Steering Module): Steering Control Valve Right Amps High / Steer Right Solenoid 1 Current High

Issue description

The control software registers that the current in the return line of the steering control valve (specifically the steer right solenoid) is too high, typically indicating a short to a 12V voltage source.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness connected to the steering control valve (steer right solenoid) for any signs of pinched wires, melted insulation, or chafing that could cause a short to a 12V power source.

  2. Ensure all electrical connectors at the XMC module and the steering valve are secure, clean, and free from corrosion or water intrusion.

  3. Use a multimeter to test the resistance of the right steering solenoid to check if the internal resistance is out of specification (indicating an internal short).

Repair steps

  1. Repair Wiring

If a short to voltage is found in the harness, repair or replace the damaged section of the wiring harness.

  2. Replace Faulty Component

If the wiring tests good but the fault persists, replace the faulty steering control valve or the specific steer right solenoid.

  3. Clear Codes

Cycle the key switch and use the CommandCenter™ or a diagnostic tool to clear the diagnostic trouble codes.

  4. Calibrate the System

If the steering control valve was replaced, recalibrate the AutoTrac steering system by putting the system into technical mode via the armrest controls, entering the tractor automation activations, and running the wheel angle sensor and steering valve calibrations on flat, hard ground.

  5. Test Operation

Restart the engine and test the steering performance manually and via AutoTrac to ensure the code does not return.
