John Deere 522846.05 – XMC / XMA: Steering Control Valve, Open Circuit

The control software registers that the electrical current at the steering control valve (steer right solenoid) is too low. This indicates that the circuit is open, which prevents the valve from receiving the necessary electrical signals to operate correctly, limiting or disabling AutoTrac™ or steering functions.

   Inspect Wiring for Breaks: Visually inspect the wiring harness connected to the steering control valve (specifically the steer right solenoid circuit) for any signs of breaks, disconnection, chafing, or corrosion.

   Test Circuit Continuity: Use a multimeter or diagnostic tool to test the continuity of the circuit between the XMC/XMA controller and the steering control valve. Ensure there are no breaks in the wiring.

   Check Electrical Connections: Inspect the harness connectors at the valve and the module. Ensure all pins are secure, fully seated, and free from moisture or corrosion.

   Resolve Wiring Issues

   If the continuity test reveals an open circuit in the harness, repair or replace the damaged section of the wiring harness.

   Clean Connections

   Clean any corroded pins and tighten loose connections at the steering control valve and the XMC/XMA module.

   Replace Faulty Component

   If the wiring and connections are perfectly intact and the continuity is good, the open circuit is internal to the steer right solenoid. You must replace the faulty solenoid or the entire steering control valve assembly with a new, manufacturer-approved part.

   Clear Codes and Calibrate

   After repair, use the John Deere diagnostic tool to clear the fault codes. Depending on the repair, you may need to run the steering valve calibration procedure via the CommandCenter™.
