John Deere 522847.18 – XMC / XMA / TMA: Steering Control Valve, Current Too Low
Issue description
The current in the return line of the steering control valve's left-steer solenoid is below the acceptable threshold. This condition typically suggests a short to ground or an open circuit in the wiring, which impairs the valve's ability to function properly and disables the AutoTrac™ or ActiveCommand Steering (ACS) systems.

Check the cause
Inspect the electrical wiring harness running from the steering control module (XMC/XMA/TMA) to the steering control valve for pinched, chafed, or frayed wires.
Disconnect the harness at the steer left solenoid and check for pushed-back pins, corrosion, or moisture inside the connector.
Use a multimeter to check the return line of the steer left solenoid for a short to ground or an open circuit.
Measure the internal resistance of the steer left solenoid coil to determine if the coil itself has failed internally.
Repair steps
Power down the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.

Locate the electro-hydraulic steering control valve assembly.
Locate the electro-hydraulic steering control valve assembly (location varies by model, often under the cab or near the front axle/steering linkage).

Repair the damaged section of the harness or replace the harness overlay.
If the diagnostic tests revealed a wiring issue, repair the damaged section of the harness or replace the harness overlay.
Replace the solenoid coil or replace the entire electro-hydraulic steering control valve assembly.
If the wiring is intact but the solenoid failed the resistance test, replace the solenoid coil (if available separately for your specific valve) or replace the entire electro-hydraulic steering control valve assembly.
Reconnect the wiring harness and the battery.
