522848.05

John Deere 522848.05 – XMC (Steering Module) / XMA / TMA: Steering Control Valve, Open Circuit (Steer Left)

Issue description

The control software registers that the electrical current at the left steering control valve solenoid is too low. This indicates an open circuit, which prevents the valve from receiving the necessary electrical signals to operate correctly, causing the control software to limit or disable automatic steering functions.

Check the cause

  1. Visually check the wiring harness connected to the steering control valve (specifically the steer-left solenoid) for any signs of breaks, chafing, disconnection, or corrosion.

  2. Use a digital multimeter to test the continuity of the circuit between the XMC/XMA module and the steering valve to ensure there are no hidden breaks in the wiring.

  3. Ensure all electrical connector pins are secure, fully seated, and free from moisture or corrosion.

Repair steps

  1. Clean and tighten connections

Clean and tighten any loose or corroded electrical connections found during the diagnostic phase.

  2. Repair or replace wiring

Repair or replace any damaged sections of the wiring harness.

  3. Replace steering control valve/solenoid

If the wiring harness and connections test perfectly (confirming the open circuit is internal to the component), the steering control valve / left steer solenoid is faulty and must be replaced.

  4. Install new valve/solenoid

Install the new manufacturer-approved steering control valve/solenoid.

  5. Clear DTCs

Clear the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) via the cab monitor or Service ADVISOR™.

  6. Test system

Test the AutoTrac™ / steering system to ensure full functionality and verify the code does not return.
