The control software has registered that the electrical current in the supply line to the steering control valve (specifically the steer left solenoid) is too low. This indicates an open circuit. Check the cause

  1. Inspect Wiring for Breaks: Visually check the wiring harness connected to the steering control valve for any signs of breaks, chafing, disconnection, or corrosion.

  2. Check Electrical Connections: Ensure all electrical connectors at the XMC module and the steering control valve are secure. Disconnect them to check for bent pins, moisture, or corrosion. Clean or tighten connections as needed.

  3. Test Circuit Continuity: Use a multimeter to test the continuity of the circuit between the XMC module and the steer left solenoid. Ensure there are no breaks in the wiring harness.

  4. Measure Solenoid Resistance: Test the resistance of the steer left solenoid itself to determine if the internal coil has failed (open).

Repair steps

  1. Power down machine

    Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery to ensure safety while working on the electrical system.

  2. Locate the valve

    Locate the AutoTrac Steering Control Valve assembly on the machine's hydraulic block.

  3. Repair wiring harness

    If the continuity test revealed a broken wire in the harness between the XMC and the valve, repair the wire using OEM-approved splicing methods or replace the affected harness section.

  4. Replace solenoid or valve assembly

    If the wiring is intact but the steer left solenoid tests open/faulty, replace the solenoid. Note that on many modern John Deere systems, the solenoids are integrated into the AutoTrac Steering Control Valve assembly and the entire valve block must be replaced.

  5. Reassemble connections

    Reconnect all electrical connections securely.

  6. Clear codes and calibrate

    Power on the tractor and use the CommandCenter display or a diagnostic tool to clear the 522848.18 fault code. If a new steering control valve was installed, you must perform a Steering Valve Calibration procedure via the display for the system to recognize the new component.
